Non-Executive Chairman

A man of many talents, Tan Sri Datuk Seri (Dr) Elyas Omar, aged 76, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of Malaya in Singapore and an MPA from the University of Pittsburgh in USA. He was awarded Hon. LLD from the University of Science Malaysia and Hon. PhD from the United States Sports Academy. He also received the Honorary Certified Doctor of Business Administration Award 2006 from the Oxford Association of Management, United Kingdom.

Tan Sri Datuk Seri (Dr) Elyas Omar started his career in 1960 in the elite MCS (Malayan Civil Service) as the Assistant Secretary of the Public Service Commission. He has held various official positions in the Government of Malaysia from 1960 to 1992 and was the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur from 1981 to 1992. He was regarded as the most dynamic and successful mayor since Independence of 1957.

Tan Sri Datuk Seri (Dr) Elyas Omar has also held several positions in the United Nations and other international bodies, as well as local NGOs and sports organisations.

On 3 January 1995 he was appointed to the Board of Mepro Holdings Berhad. He is currently the company’s Director and Non-Executive Chairman and also sits on the Board of several private companies.
